Functional Medicine Approach

What is going on?

Inside you, there’s a bustling city called the “microbiome,” full of microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. These tiny residents work in harmony with your body, but when things go out of balance, they can cause a lot of trouble. From stomach issues to infections and even conditions like depression, diabetes, obesity, and dementia, a disrupted microbiome can be the hidden culprit. When this balance is disturbed for too long—what we call dysbiosis—it can lead to problems like leaky gut, bloating, food sensitivities, and a higher risk of colon cancer.

How Can We Help?

As we age, face stress, get sick, or stick to the same old diet, our gut’s microbiome loses some of its diversity. To keep your gut healthy, it’s crucial to create a welcoming environment for good bacteria. Instead of jumping on diet trends or falling for marketing gimmicks, it’s important to understand what your unique microbiome needs to stay balanced and healthy.

Our Approach

Everyone’s microbiome is a little different, but there are optimal levels for certain bacteria that keep your gut running smoothly. At Vitality, we dig deep into those nagging stomach problems that don’t seem to have a clear cause. Through specialized testing, we uncover what’s really going on and craft a personalized plan for you, using diet changes and targeted supplements.

Consider This!

Your gut is home to about 70% of your immune system. The diverse mix of microorganisms there plays a key role in managing your immune responses and protecting you from harmful invaders. Keeping your microbiome balanced is essential for your overall health and well-being.

Heather Thornton

Health & Life Coach
From an early age, I've had a passion to serve people and a deep sensitivity for the human spirit. Along the way, life also threw a number of health and auto-immune challenges my way early on, so I became personally shaped by the complexity of how our mind, body and spirit all function together. I'm deeply empathetic of how those challenges can become discouragements and places we get stuck in life, and I'm equally passionate about how beautiful the freedom we find can be, even and maybe especially when life isn't so perfect.

My experiences for the last 30 years in both helping and healthcare roles have naturally converged, taking that wisdom, heart and hope and now devoting the second half of my life wholeheartedly to people who are on their own journey of finding balance and fulfilment. My goal is to compassionately and fervently help you reach your goals!

I am currently completing my accreditation through the International Coaching Federation, and if you are a patient of Vitality, you'll get the added benefit of our work together including a health plan and goals designed and refined at every visit with your personal physician. It's absolutely within reach to experience meaningful change, so let's get started!

Dr. Amrit Dockery is incredibly knowledgeable in her field, especially in regards to health and wellness. She took the time and care to walk me through my results, as well as giving me a practical game plan on how I could work towards my health goals. She cares about true healing and getting to the root of the issue, not just putting a band aid on things. I have been incredibly blessed by her care.
