Daytime Leaking
Also called daytime enuresis, daytime leaking is the involuntary release of urine that could be related to weak or poor coordination of the pelvic floor muscles
What causes it:
Daytime enuresis, can be caused by a variety of factors including delayed bladder control, overactive bladder, or poor bathroom habits such as “holding” urine too long.
Constipation can also put pressure on the bladder and interfere with normal function. In middle school to high school aged children this could be the first signs of stress incontinence if occurring only with activity.
Identifying the underlying cause is important for effective treatment and management.
How PFPT helps:
Pediatric pelvic floor physical therapy helps with daytime enuresis by teaching children how to properly sense, strengthen, and coordinate the muscles that control urination.
Your therapist will use techniques like biofeedback, muscle retraining, and education on healthy bladder habits to improve awareness and control. Therapy also addresses contributing factors such as constipation, posture, and toileting behaviors.
With consistent guidance, children can learn to better recognize the urge to urinate and respond appropriately, reducing accidents during the day.
How long does treatment take:
The length of pelvic floor physical therapy for daytime leaking varies depending on your child’s symptoms, contributing factors like constipation or posture, and how consistently home exercises are followed.
Most children benefit from a course of therapy lasting between 6 to 12 weeks, with weekly or biweekly sessions. Some children show early improvement within just a few visits, especially when supported by engaged caregivers and consistent routine changes.
Your therapist will monitor progress closely and adjust the plan to ensure long-term success. Ongoing follow-up may be suggested for continued support as your child develops confidence and control.

What Clients Are Saying

I have been coming to Vitality Pelvic Health for several weeks. I was looking for options to help strengthen my pelvic floor following an injury during childbirth and just aging in general. I am 44 years old, and my youngest child is 13, but Tristan explained that we are always in that postpartum phase. Tristan is extremely knowledgeable and so incredibly thorough! I’ve never met anyone who knows so much about pelvic dysfunction and ways to combat it. She’s created a strengthening program for me that I can continue to use long after my sessions are completed. I highly recommend her to any woman seeking help in this area. You will not regret it!

Dr. Nikki is truly amazing. I came to her a year and half after having my baby because I felt like something was off and that I was still not fully recovered. She gave me a whole toolbox of movements and practices to get myself back together and feel confident that my body could safely pick up my growing daughter. She figured out exactly what I needed to do, and gave me a realistic plan all while being so kind and patient. I could not recommend her more to any new moms or moms to be (or really anyone struggling with functional movement).
