Potty Training Issues
Weakness of the muscles that are involved with bowel and bladder function and poor self awareness of urge sensation can lead to issues with potty training initially or cause regression
What causes it:
Potty training issues are often caused by a child not being developmentally ready or experiencing fear and anxiety about using the toilet.
Physical problems like constipation or urinary tract infections can also contribute. Emotional stress or big life changes may lead to resistance or regression.
Inconsistent routines or too much pressure from caregivers can make the process more difficult
How PFPT can help:
Pelvic floor physical therapy helps with potty training issues by strengthening and retraining the muscles involved in bladder and bowel control.
Your physical therapist use exercises, biofeedback, and fun, age-appropriate techniques to improve coordination and awareness of the pelvic floor. It can address problems like constipation, urinary retention, and accidents.
It can improve a child’s awareness, coordination, and timing of these muscles, making it easier to recognize and respond to the urge to go.
How long does treatment take:
The length of pediatric pelvic floor physical therapy varies by child, but most treatment plans last between 6 to 12 weeks, with sessions typically once per week.
Some children may improve more quickly, while others, especially those with chronic constipation, significant muscle dysfunction, or underlying conditions, may need longer-term support.
Progress depends on consistency with home exercises, parental involvement, and the child’s specific challenges.

What Clients Are Saying

I have been coming to Vitality Pelvic Health for several weeks. I was looking for options to help strengthen my pelvic floor following an injury during childbirth and just aging in general. I am 44 years old, and my youngest child is 13, but Tristan explained that we are always in that postpartum phase. Tristan is extremely knowledgeable and so incredibly thorough! I’ve never met anyone who knows so much about pelvic dysfunction and ways to combat it. She’s created a strengthening program for me that I can continue to use long after my sessions are completed. I highly recommend her to any woman seeking help in this area. You will not regret it!

Dr. Nikki is truly amazing. I came to her a year and half after having my baby because I felt like something was off and that I was still not fully recovered. She gave me a whole toolbox of movements and practices to get myself back together and feel confident that my body could safely pick up my growing daughter. She figured out exactly what I needed to do, and gave me a realistic plan all while being so kind and patient. I could not recommend her more to any new moms or moms to be (or really anyone struggling with functional movement).
